The Yamaha YFZ350 Banshee broke many hearts as one of the last remaining 2-stroke quads. While it was not quite as much a hero as its primary competition, the Honda TRX250R 2-stroke, it did boast an additional 100cc of high-revving prowess. Weighing in at 386 pounds with a 5.3 inch ground clearance and a 50.4 wheelbase it still went head to head with its competition and was a favorite upon the sand dunes of Glamis and Dumont and even a well-favored machine upon the motocross track and in the desert. For suspension, the front end was an A-arm setup with 9.1 inches of travel with five-way preload adjustment. For the rear suspension, it was the standard rebound, compression setup with a threaded preload and 8.7 inches of travel. Both the front and rear brakes boasted dual hydraulic discs. The liquid-cooled twin had a 64mm X 54mm bore and stroke with a 6.5:1 compression ratio. Clad with dual Mikuni 26 carburetors, the 6-speed manual clutch transmission flicked through the gears with authority.
